Cosmetic dentistry focuses on how your teeth and smile look. It can address tooth color, shape, size, minor chips, gaps, uneven edges, and certain alignment issues. Cosmetic and restorative dentistry can overlap when a treatment improves the appearance of a tooth while also repairing damage or restoring its function.
Before starting any elective cosmetic treatment, your dentist checks the health of your teeth and gums.
Cosmetic dentistry can improve:

Surface stains from coffee or wine often respond to whitening. Discoloration coming from inside the tooth often needs veneers or another treatment, depending on the cause.

A small chip might just need bonding. Larger damage may call for a veneer or crown. Any cracked tooth needs an exam first to rule out more serious damage.

Small gaps can sometimes close with bonding or veneers. Larger gaps may need orthodontic treatment instead, since cosmetic work isn't always the right fix.

Minor unevenness responds well to bonding or contouring. More noticeable irregularities may call for veneers or crowns.

Slightly crowded or rotated teeth sometimes factor into a cosmetic plan. Cosmetic treatment doesn't replace orthodontics for real bite or alignment problems, so your dentist will tell you which path fits.

Teeth worn down from grinding or years of use often need restorative care alongside any cosmetic fix.
The right treatment depends on your teeth, your concerns, and the result you want. Not every option fits every patient.

An in-office whitening treatment lifts stains and brightens your smile faster than at-home kits.

Veneers cover the front of a tooth to fix chips, gaps, or stubborn discoloration, usually within one or two visits.

Bonding repairs small chips and gaps with tooth-colored material, often completed in a single appointment.

A smile makeover combines two or more cosmetic treatments to address several concerns at once, planned around your specific teeth.
Healthy teeth and gums come before any cosmetic work. Active cavities or gum disease need treatment first, since cosmetic work on top of an unhealthy mouth won’t last. Your bite matters too, especially for veneers or bonding that change how teeth meet. Existing fillings or crowns can also affect what cosmetic options make sense.
A good cosmetic result should never come at the cost of a tooth’s health or function.

Redd Road Family Dental has served El Paso since 1986. Dr. David A. Cenk and Dr. Kyle Gross both look at the full picture of a patient’s oral health before recommending cosmetic treatment.
As a family dental practice, the team sees patients across every age group. A cosmetic plan takes your full dental history into account, not just the smile in front of you. The practice has built long-term relationships with generations of El Paso patients, allowing the team to understand each patient’s dental history and changing oral-health needs over time.
Not entirely. Many treatments, like bonding or veneers, also protect a tooth’s structure while improving how it looks.
It depends on the type of staining. Surface stains often respond to whitening, while deeper discoloration usually needs veneers.
Not exactly, though some come close. Veneers can last well over a decade with good care, while whitening tends to fade after a while and needs the occasional touch-up to stay bright.
Treatments like bonding add material without removing much tooth structure. Veneers usually need a small amount of enamel removed to fit properly.
Patients come to Redd Road Family Dental for all kinds of reasons, from a chipped front tooth to years of coffee stains they’re finally ready to fix. If you want cosmetic dentistry in El Paso, TX, our team can walk you through your options based on your own teeth.
