A dental exam and checkup give your dentist a chance to review the health of your teeth, gums, and bite. If they notice anything that needs care, they will let you know early and explain it clearly so that you can decide on next steps with confidence. It is a straightforward visit meant to keep small concerns from growing and to keep you informed along the way.
Dental problems rarely announce themselves. A small cavity or early gum trouble can sit quietly for months without a hint of pain. Regular visits give your dentist the chance to spot these things early, when the fix is usually quick and simple. Here’s why regular visits are important:
There’s nothing to worry about here. A checkup is just a calm, thorough look at your mouth, plus time to ask us anything on your mind. Here’s what a visit usually involves:

Your dentist examines your teeth, gums, bite, and overall oral health for potential concerns.

Sometimes we'll suggest X-rays, since they let us see what our eyes can't during a routine exam. It's a simple way to catch small problems early.

A cleaning is part of most visits. We'll gently remove plaque and tartar so your teeth feel fresh and your gums stay healthy.

When we're finished, your dentist will talk you through what they found in plain, easy terms. If something needs a little attention, they'll let you know.

There's no pressure to remember everything. Before you leave, your dentist will go over a few simple ways to care for your teeth at home and let you know if a follow-up would help.

Most people do well with regular dental visits, but the right schedule is different for everyone. Your dentist will look at your oral health and suggest how often you should come in, so your visits fit your needs.
Not every time. Whether you need X-rays depends on your dental history, any symptoms you’ve noticed, your age, and what your mouth needs right now.
Every visit is a little different, since the time you’ll need depends on the care you’re getting and how your mouth is doing. Your dentist will give you a rough idea when you arrive so that you can plan your day without any guesswork.
